Why they're helpful
Wasps can be predators of pests such as aphids, cabbage worms, tomatoes hornworms, soft-bodied caterpillar. Their larvae are particularly helpful predators acting as parasites. Wasp eggs can prevent the further development of pest eggs.
Identification
Brachonid wasps are identified as being small, slim bodied, and having an ant-like head, narrow waist, and long antanae. Trichogramma wasps are microscopic sized wasps.
How to attract
To attract wasps a pool/birdbath or some other source of drinking water is useful. Herbs and flowers with pollen/nectar also attract wasps. Specific plants that attract wasps include cilantro, parsley, chamomile, catnip, dill, tomatoes, zucchinis. apples, blackberries, blueberries, squash, pumpkin, and peanuts.
