(45 days) Contender is an early bush bean, that is reliable, heavy-yielding, and considered by many to be the earliest producing bean at an amazing 40-45 days! Contender bean is perfect for short, cool seasons where other beans may not perform well. This bean is mildew tolerant and still does well in hot weather. Perfect for an entire crop of green beans without a trellis or to fill a gap in your summer garden. Direct sow after your last frost date at a depth of no more than twice the seed's width. Cover with soil and keep moist until germination. Full sun and not frost tolerant. When beans are to the desired length Pick daily to keep the plant producing. Plant 1 foot apart. May need staking for additional support. Fertilize with a well-balanced fertilizer.
