This heirloom variety forms a non-heading, open cluster of large, dark green leaves with a slightly crumpled texture, maturing in about 70 days. Its mild, cabbage-like flavor and tender texture sweeten and significantly improve after exposure to a light frost. Highly adaptable, it tolerates extreme temperatures and poor soils while exhibiting a slow-bolting habit. These versatile greens are excellent for braising, steaming, stir-frying, traditional Southern dishes, or fresh in salads.
