Bearded or German Iris

Iris germanica cultivars number in the thousands, in a complete rainbow of colors, both solid and bi-color. Many cultivars have a heady, grape-like fragrance. The falls and standards are ruffled, with a colored beard on the inner part of the fall. Twice blooming cultivars are available. These rhizhomes are called stem tubers and lay along the soil surface. Mild toxicity/dermatitus of rhizomes and leaves to humans, cats, dogs, horses.
