This bean gracefully reflects the holistic approach to diet and lifestyle advocated by the community and is the ultimate choice for preparing bean-based dishes for potluck gatherings. An early maturing type, it is best suited for drying, but can be eaten as a snap bean when young. These plants produce heaps of 3-inch, flat green pods decorated with light red streaks containing 4 to 6 honey-colored beans per pod. They have an upright semi-bush habit that produces runners capable of climbing to 4 feet with support. This variety was listed in the 1980s Seeds Blum catalog with a short and sweet description “Yellow oldy’ from Northern Idaho Mountains.”
