(Solanum melongena). Large fruit is oval to teardrop shaped and nearly black. Flesh is very tender and sweet. It is even highly recommended for use without cooking! Excellent baked, roasted, or pickled, this fruit was originally collected at a local market in Japan. Traditionally grown in the Mitoyo and Kanonji areas, it is one of the best-tasting eggplants we have ever tried. 90 days to maturity
