Club Root

Club Root

Identification

The growth of plants affected by club root will be stunted. Plants will also be wilted, and leaves may turn yellow. Eventually, plants fail to produce the intended crop for harvest. The roots of impacted plants will appear swollen and distorted.

Damage prevention

Disinfect tools after working in infected soils. Grow at-risk plants from seed, as club root often spreads via transplants, and can last in one area of soil for up to 20 years.

Physical control

If a site is known to have club root, do not plant at-risk crops there. However, other plants can grow in affected soils just fine. Infected plants must always be discarded on-site, to help prevent the spread of club root.

Chemical control

There is no effective method of chemically controlling club root once an area has been infected.
